The Magnat MR-780 is a hybrid valve stereo receiver for a two-channel music system. Two ECC 81 / 12AT7 valves operate in the preamplifier stage, while a transistor stage delivers power to the speakers. Hybrid amplifier design
The preamplifier stage uses two selected ECC 81 / 12AT7 valves, while a transistor power-amplifier stage drives the speakers. This design keeps valve-based signal amplification separate from the work performed by the power stage.

Connecting analogue sources
Five RCA line-level inputs can be used with an external CD player, network player, DAC or another analogue source. The 3.5 mm input on the front panel is convenient when temporarily connecting a portable player.
A dedicated MM phono input allows direct connection of a turntable fitted with an MM cartridge. The phono stage includes a 16 Hz subsonic filter with an 18 dB-per-octave slope. It attenuates very-low-frequency signals that may arise during vinyl playback.
Digital connections and wireless playback
The USB Audio 2.0 Type-B input is intended for a compatible computer or another USB audio source. Two optical and two coaxial RCA inputs accept digital players and other devices that output a compatible PCM signal.
The integrated Wolfson WM8740 digital-to-analogue converter supports signals up to 192 kHz at 24-bit resolution.
Wireless music playback is provided through Bluetooth 4.0 with Qualcomm aptX. This receiver is not a network player. It does not include integrated Wi-Fi, Ethernet, AirPlay, Chromecast or control for music-streaming services.
Radio and operation
The tuner receives DAB, DAB+ and FM broadcasts. RDS information and radio text are supported in FM mode. Memory is provided for 40 DAB/DAB+ presets and 40 FM presets, giving quick access to frequently used stations without repeating the station search.
DAB/DAB+ reception quality depends on local broadcast coverage and the antenna being used. A remote control is included. The manufacturer has also released firmware version 1.14C, although the version installed on an individual unit may differ.
Placement on an equipment shelf
The enclosure is 433 mm wide and weighs 8.9 kg. Its nominal depth of 317 mm does not represent all the space needed for installation. Including the front controls and rear connections, the overall depth is 360 mm.
