The Pioneer DEH-X7800DAB CD receiver is a 1-DIN in-car audio source combining CD playback, DAB/DAB+ and FM/AM radio, USB, AUX and Bluetooth. Three pairs of RCA outputs make it possible to expand the system with external amplifiers and a subwoofer.
Purpose and installation
This model is designed for a vehicle with a 1-DIN installation slot. It is an in-car CD receiver, not a component for a home stereo or home cinema system.
The front panel is fully detachable, so it can be removed from the vehicle and stored in the supplied protective case. Front-mounted USB and AUX connections make portable audio sources easy to connect during everyday use.
Music sources
The CD player reads standard CDs as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs. It can play MP3, WMA, WAV and AAC files from compatible discs. Last-position memory allows listening to continue from the point at which playback was previously stopped.
Random playback plays tracks in a shuffled order. CD Text and MP3 text information help identify recordings on the display when the relevant data is stored on the disc.
The front USB port supports MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC and AAC files. FLAC support allows music in this format to be played without first converting it to MP3.
The front AUX input is suitable for a device with an analogue audio output. Bluetooth is more convenient for wireless streaming, while USB is intended for playing supported files from connected storage media.
Digital and analogue radio
The integrated DAB/DAB+ digital radio tuner supports automatic tuning and alphabetical station search. DAB/DAB+ reception requires a Pioneer CA-AN-DAB.001 antenna, sold separately.
The time-shift function allows control of a short, temporarily stored portion of a DAB broadcast. The product carries Digital Radio Tick Mark certification.
The FM/AM tuner provides memory for 24 stations and supports RDS. PTY search helps find programming by type, while BSM automatically saves the stations with the strongest reception.
The traffic announcement function provides relevant broadcasts when they are transmitted by the selected network. Automatic alternative-frequency search helps maintain the same programme while travelling. Frequencies can also be tuned manually.
Bluetooth and mobile devices
Bluetooth supports hands-free calling and wireless audio streaming. Two phones can be connected at the same time. The supplied microphone is intended for calls inside the vehicle.
Additional features include automatic phone-book transfer, wideband speech, wireless browsing of audio content and voice recognition.
Features offered when this model was released included direct iPod and iPhone control, App Mode, ARC and Android AOA 2.0. Present-day operation depends on continued support from the phone, operating system, application and service.
The receiver also has a Spotify button. This represents an earlier service integration and does not guarantee that Spotify works today.
Audio-system connection and adjustment
Three pairs of RCA line outputs are provided for the front, rear and subwoofer channels. They allow external amplifiers to be connected separately and offer greater flexibility when configuring the vehicle’s audio system.
The receiver can use a conventional front, rear and subwoofer configuration. Alternatively, it offers a three-way network mode intended for a system designed around separate frequency bands.
The 13-band graphic equaliser adjusts tonal balance across different frequency ranges. Begin with a neutral setting, then adjust only the areas that clearly stand out inside the vehicle.
High-pass and low-pass filters help distribute the reproduced frequency range between connected components. Their settings should reflect the capabilities of the speakers and subwoofer being used.
Manual time alignment compensates for the different distances between the listener and each speaker. Measure the distance from the driver’s listening position to every channel, then make small adjustments while listening to a familiar recording.
Source-level adjustment helps reduce sudden changes in volume when switching between radio, CD and other sources. Advanced Sound Retriever, Advanced Sound Retriever Air and Direct Sub Drive functions are also provided.
The integrated MOSFET amplifier is rated at 50 W × 4 maximum power. This figure must not be interpreted as continuous or RMS output power.
Display and controls
The wide-viewing-angle VA LCD uses a 1.5-line dot-matrix display and can show Cyrillic characters.
Separate illumination zones can be selected from 210,000 RGB colours. An illumination line, lighting effects, a timer and ten-step brightness adjustment are also available.
The music browser simplifies track selection from supported sources, while MIXTRAX provides an additional music-playback mode. A wired remote-control input allows a suitable control solution to be connected.
