Magnat MMS 730 is a network audio player designed for an existing stereo system. It combines a DAB+/FM tuner, DLNA, Bluetooth 5.0 and internet music features. As a source component, it requires an amplifier, active speakers or another sound reproduction system.

Audio sources and network features

DLNA enables playback of audio files stored on a home network. The player can connect via wired Ethernet or 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. A wired connection is useful when the player is positioned near the router and more stable data transmission is preferred.

The network platform was developed for Spotify, internet radio and multi-room audio streaming. These functions were controlled through the Magnat Streaming App. Operation of the online services and app now depends on their availability and the device being used. Two fixed-level RCA outputs carry a 2 V RMS analogue signal. Use them when connecting the player to an integrated amplifier or the analogue input of active speakers. Volume is then adjusted on the connected audio system.

An optical Toslink output and a coaxial digital output can send the signal to an external converter or an amplifier with a suitable input. This allows the connected device’s digital-to-analogue converter to be used instead of the built-in Wolfson WM8740.

The front USB-A 1.1 port accepts FAT16 or FAT32 storage devices with capacities up to 8 GB. It plays MP3 and WMA files and displays ID3 tags. The port supplies 5 V DC at up to 1000 mA. The player has no internal file storage.

Radio and control options

The DAB/DAB+ and FM tuners can each store 40 station presets. DAB station scanning and automatic FM tuning simplify initial setup. The FM tuner also supports RDS and radio text.

The two-line display offers three brightness levels. This lets you dim the display in the evening or improve legibility in a bright room. A remote control is included for everyday operation.

Chassis and placement

The chassis is made entirely of metal. It has a solid brushed-aluminium front panel and solid-aluminium controls. The player has a black finish and weighs 3.3 kg.
