TAD ME1 speakers are passive three-way bookshelf speakers designed for an accurate stereo system. Their coaxial CST assembly combines magnesium and beryllium drivers to support coherent sound localization. A 16 cm MACC woofer operates in a bass-reflex enclosure with side-mounted ADS openings. TAD ME1 speakers are passive, compact three-way bass-reflex bookshelf speakers designed for an accurate stereo system. Their specified frequency response extends from 36 Hz to 60 kHz. Each speaker requires its own amplifier channel and speaker cable.
Each speaker weighs 20 kg, so it needs a stable supporting surface. The compact format does not mean that the speakers present a light load to an amplifier. When choosing system electronics, nominal impedance, sensitivity and maximum input power must all be considered.
Coaxial CST driver
The CST coaxial assembly combines a 9 cm magnesium-cone midrange driver with a 2.5 cm beryllium-dome tweeter. Both drivers are positioned on the same axis in accordance with the point-source concept.
The directional characteristics of the midrange driver and tweeter are coordinated. This arrangement is intended to reduce interference between them and maintain more stable sound localization. The light, rigid beryllium dome reproduces high frequencies up to the specified 60 kHz limit.
The CST assembly takes over at the 420 Hz crossover region. The midrange and high-frequency bands are divided at 2.5 kHz. This configuration allows a large part of the audible range to be reproduced by a single coaxial assembly.
Woofer and enclosure
The 16 cm woofer uses a multilayer MACC aramid-composite diaphragm. The woven aramid material and non-woven material are formed separately and then laminated together. This construction combines diaphragm rigidity with low internal loss.
The magnetic system is designed to support linear driver movement. The woofer operates up to the 420 Hz crossover point, where reproduction passes to the CST assembly.
The Bi-Directional ADS system consists of slot-shaped bass-reflex openings on both sides of the enclosure. These openings widen toward the front and rear. Their symmetrical arrangement is intended to reduce unwanted port noise and control standing waves inside the enclosure.
Connecting the amplifier
The TAD ME1 supports single-wire and bi-wire connections. For single-wire operation, the supplied jumper cables must remain installed between the terminal sections. This allows one amplifier channel to feed both frequency-band circuits.
For bi-wire operation, the jumpers must be removed before the system is switched on. Two cables are then run to each speaker. This separates the signal paths for the woofer and CST assembly, but it does not turn the speaker into an active model.
There is no built-in amplifier or user control panel. Volume and other system settings are controlled through the connected stereo amplifier or AV receiver.
Choosing an amplifier
A nominal impedance of 4 ohms means that the amplifier must be designed to operate reliably with this load. The stated sensitivity of 85 dB was measured with a 2.83 V signal at a distance of one metre. It must not be treated as a 1 W sensitivity measurement.
The 150 W figure is the specified maximum input power, not a continuous-power rating. It does not prescribe a required amplifier output. When selecting an amplifier, stable operation with 4-ohm speakers and a clean signal at the intended listening level are more important.
Placement in the listening room
The side-mounted ADS openings direct air toward the front and rear. The distance from walls, furniture and other surfaces can therefore alter the bass balance. The final position is best chosen by listening from the main seating position.
When changing the distance from the rear wall, assess more than the amount of bass. Placement also affects tonal accuracy and spatial imaging. The left and right speakers of the stereo pair should be positioned in acoustic conditions that are as similar as possible.
Optional TAD-ST3 stands are designed for this model but are not included with the standard speaker package. One stand package contains a pair. Black and titanium versions are available to match the speaker finishes.
Use in an audio system
In a home cinema system, the TAD ME1 speakers can be used as the front left and right channels.
Finish options
The TAD-ME1-K model has a high-gloss Piano Black finish. The TAD-ME1-S version has a high-gloss titanium-silver finish. Both variants use the same acoustic construction and have the same technical specifications.

FAQ
Are these active speakers?
No. They are passive speakers without a built-in amplifier, wireless connectivity or volume control. A separate amplifier and speaker cables are required.
What kind of amplifier is suitable?
The amplifier must operate reliably with a 4-ohm load. The 85 dB sensitivity should also be considered when planning the desired listening level and listening distance.
When should the jumper cables be removed?
Leave the jumpers installed when using a single-wire connection. They must be removed before making a bi-wire connection so that the terminal sections are separated.
Can the speakers be placed close to a wall?
Yes, but nearby surfaces affect the operation of the ADS openings and alter the bass balance. The most suitable distance should be determined by listening in the room where the speakers will be used.
