JL Audio JD400/4 amplifier is a four-channel car audio model designed to power a speaker system. Its four channels can operate independently or be combined into three- or two-channel configurations. Line-level and speaker-level inputs simplify connection to different audio sources. Separate 50-500 Hz filters for each channel pair help define the reproduced frequency range, while LED indicators assist with input sensitivity adjustment.
JL Audio JD400/4 amplifier is a four-channel, full-range Class D car audio amplifier. It is designed to power a four-speaker system or operate in a flexible three- or two-channel configuration. At 14.4 V, it delivers 75 W RMS to each channel at 4 Ω. With a 2 Ω load, each channel produces 100 W RMS at 1% THD.
Channel Configurations
The amplifier can be used in four-channel mode, three-channel mode with one channel pair bridged into a 4 Ω load, or two-channel mode with both pairs bridged. In two-channel operation, it delivers 200 W RMS to each 4 Ω load at 14.4 V. These options allow the same amplifier to suit a conventional four-speaker installation or a system that requires bridged channels.
Inputs and Signal Routing
Dual-range, differential-balanced inputs accept either line-level or speaker-level signals. The line-level option is intended for a source with RCA outputs, while the speaker-level input makes it possible to connect a source that does not provide line outputs.
The RCA sensitivity range can be switched between 200 mV-2 V RMS and 800 mV-8 V RMS. A selectable two- or four-channel input mode provides additional flexibility when planning how the source signal is distributed through the system.
A buffered line output passes a two-channel signal to another amplifier. Source-channel selection is not available for this output. Automatic turn-on can be triggered by detection of either an audio signal or a DC offset.
Filter and Sensitivity Adjustment
Each pair of channels has its own selectable high-pass or low-pass filter, and the filter can also be switched off. The frequency is continuously adjustable from 50 to 500 Hz, with a slope of 12 dB per octave. This independent adjustment helps define the frequency range handled by each connected speaker group.
The frequency potentiometers do not have fixed detents or a calibrated scale. Settings should therefore be adjusted carefully according to the requirements of the installed audio system rather than by relying on marked preset positions.
Signal-clipping LED indicators surround each input sensitivity control. They show when clipping occurs and help the installer match input sensitivity without separate test equipment. A remote level controller is not supported by this model.
Installation and Wiring Planning
The adjustment controls are located on the input panel. Power and speaker connections are positioned at the opposite end of the extruded-aluminium chassis, allowing the signal and power wiring routes to be planned separately.
The enclosure measures 53 × 242 × 180 mm. Power and ground connections require copper cable no smaller than 4 AWG. The power circuit must use an external 40 A AFS, AGU or MaxiFuse fuse.

FAQ
Can the amplifier be connected to a factory audio system?
Yes, provided that the system can supply a speaker-level signal. Automatic turn-on can be activated by an audio signal or a DC offset.
When should I select the Low or High RCA range?
Select Low for a signal between 200 mV and 2 V RMS. Select High for a signal between 800 mV and 8 V RMS.
Can a 2 Ω load be connected in bridged mode?
The bridged power rating is specified only for a 4 Ω load. The 2 Ω rating applies to individual channels.
How do the LED indicators help set input sensitivity?
They indicate signal clipping and help you adjust the sensitivity without separate test equipment.
Can the bass level be adjusted remotely?
No. This model does not support a remote level controller.
