The Acoustic Energy Aego³ is a compact active 2.1 speaker system for music and other home audio. The Acoustic Energy Aego³ speaker system is a compact active 2.1 system for music and other home audio. It consists of two satellite speakers and a subwoofer containing the integrated amplification and power-supply unit. The system therefore does not require a separate power amplifier.
Three input types provide a choice of wired analogue, wired digital or wireless connectivity. The compact satellite speakers are particularly suitable for spaces where accommodating conventional stereo speakers would be inconvenient.
Three ways to connect audio sources
The 3.5 mm stereo input is intended for a computer, player or another source with an analogue line-level output. It is also useful when you want a simple wired connection without wireless pairing.
The optical digital input accepts audio from a device with a compatible optical output. It is a practical option for connecting a television, media player or another digital source.
Bluetooth 4.0 enables wireless audio streaming. The system supports aptX, although use of this codec also depends on the capabilities of the connected source device.
System construction and connections
The satellite speaker enclosures are made from an aluminium composite. Their finish combines aluminium with black rubber and black grilles, while the subwoofer has a textured black finish.
The satellite speakers connect to two RCA speaker-level outputs. These are not conventional line-level RCA outputs for an external amplifier. They carry an amplified signal intended for the system’s satellite speakers.
Controls and initial setup
The system offers full remote control. Settings can be adjusted from the listening position, so there is no need to approach the subwoofer whenever a change is required.
When connecting a source for the first time, begin with its volume set low. Increase it gradually until you reach a comfortable listening level. When using Bluetooth, the selected source must first be paired with the system.
Positioning in the room
Place the satellite speakers at a similar height and an equal distance from the main listening position. This arrangement helps maintain a clear stereo image. Their compact enclosures take up little room on a desk or shelf.
Begin by placing the subwoofer on a stable surface near the front of the system. Positioning it closer to a wall will often strengthen the bass response in the room. If the bass sounds too prominent, move the subwoofer slightly farther away and assess the result from your listening position.
Leave open space around the integrated amplification and power-supply unit. The subwoofer should not be enclosed inside a sealed cabinet.
Power output and electrical supply
The seller’s specification lists a 65 W RMS rating for the subwoofer and amplification unit. This is not a separately stated power rating for each satellite speaker. The 65 VA figure describes an electrical power parameter and should not be interpreted as additional audio output power.
The switch-mode power supply accepts 110-240 V, 50/60 Hz mains electricity. The mains plug type depends on the regional power cable being used.

Does the system require a separate amplifier?
No. The amplification and power-supply unit is integrated into the subwoofer. The satellite speakers connect to the dedicated speaker-level outputs.
Which input should I use?

Will aptX work with every phone?
