TAD ME1TX bookshelf speakers are a three-way bass-reflex system designed for a home stereo setup with an external amplifier. Each speaker combines a 9 cm CST driver assembly with a 16 cm woofer. Choose the black TAD-ME1TX-K or silver-white TAD-ME1TX-SW variant.
Design and frequency integration
The Coherent Source Transducer (CST) assembly places two drivers on the same axis. It consists of a 9 cm magnesium-cone midrange driver and a 25 mm semi-dome tweeter.
This coaxial geometry allows the midrange cone to control the tweeter’s dispersion around the crossover region. It aligns the phase and directivity of the two drivers where their reproduced frequency ranges meet. The CST assembly covers frequencies from 420 Hz to 60 kHz.
High-frequency and midrange drivers
The new 25 mm beryllium-diaphragm tweeter is manufactured using TAD’s vapour-deposition technology. Its diaphragm shape was selected using the HSDOM optimisation method. The tweeter reproduces frequencies up to 60 kHz.
The midrange cone is made from a magnesium alloy. Its surface is anodised and given an additional coating. The construction suppresses resonance around the point where the voice-coil lead is connected.
The shoulder of the midrange driver basket has been reinforced. Its shape also helps sound waves travel more freely behind the diaphragm.
Woofer construction
The single 16 cm woofer uses a multilayer aramid-composite MACC diaphragm. It is formed from layers of woven aramid fabric and a non-woven fabric made from another material.
The driver incorporates an improved LDMC linear-drive magnetic circuit. Its corrugated surround is made from foamed polycarbonate. The reinforced basket shoulder accommodates diaphragm movement while supporting the propagation of sound waves behind it.
Enclosure and bass-reflex ports
SILENT laminated enclosure technology combines birch-plywood bracing with medium-density fibreboard. Five-millimetre-thick steel plates are fitted to the left and right sides to increase enclosure rigidity.
Acoustic absorbent material is positioned according to an analysis of internal standing waves. The enclosure receives a clear finish. The base layer is sanded before the final surface is polished.
The bidirectional ADS bass-reflex system consists of slot-shaped ducts built into the side panels. Their openings flare towards the front and rear.
The ports are arranged symmetrically from side to side and from front to back.
Placement and system matching
Because the bass-reflex ducts face both forwards and backwards, leave open space around each speaker. Begin with both speakers placed at the same distance from the rear wall. Then adjust their positions while listening from your usual seat and assessing the evenness of the bass response.
The optional TAD-ST3TX stand is designed for this model. The speaker is also compatible with the earlier TAD-ST3 stand. A stand is not included.
The 150 W figure is the maximum input power, not a continuous permissible-power rating. The 85 dB sensitivity was measured using a 2.83 V signal at a distance of one metre. These measurement conditions should be retained when comparing this model with other speakers.
