Pioneer AVH-X390BT Car Stereo

Pioneer AVH-X390BT is a 2-DIN car stereo designed for music, video playback and hands-free calling. It features a 6.2-inch WVGA touchscreen, a CD and DVD player, a USB connection and Bluetooth connectivity. A dedicated reversing-camera input also allows the display to be used while parking.

Who this player is for

This model is suitable for vehicles with a 2-DIN installation space. Its built-in MOSFET amplifier can drive four channels of a car audio system directly. The stated 50 W × 4 rating is the maximum output, not the continuous power output.

Three pairs of RCA pre-outs are provided for the front, rear and subwoofer channels, allowing the system to be expanded with external amplifiers. The 4 V RCA output voltage is intended to carry the audio signal to a connected amplifier.

Display and controls

The 6.2-inch WVGA Clear Type touchscreen has a 16:9 aspect ratio. Selectable widescreen modes help adapt the displayed picture to different recordings. When a camera is connected, the unit supports switching to the rear-view image.

The front panel includes a multicolour display and illumination. The RGB button lighting can be set to one of 210,000 colours, allowing the controls to be coordinated with the vehicle’s dashboard illumination.

Music and video sources

The player accepts CDs and Region 2 DVDs. MP3, WMA and AAC audio files can be played from CD or DVD media. Supported disc-based video formats include DivX, Xvid, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4.

The rear USB connection accepts MP3, WMA, AAC, WAV and FLAC audio files. It can also play DivX, Xvid, H.264 and MPEG-4 video files as well as display JPEG photographs. The supplied USB extension cable makes it possible to route the connection to a more convenient position inside the vehicle.

An RDS FM/AM tuner provides a separate radio source. The rear AUX input can be used for an analogue audio source. MIXTRAX and MIXTRAX EZ provide additional control over music playback and transitions between tracks.

Phone connectivity

Bluetooth supports the HFP, A2DP and SPP profiles. A2DP is used for wireless music streaming, while HFP supports hands-free telephone calls. An external Bluetooth microphone is included, so there is no need to purchase a separate microphone for calling.

Support for iPod, iPhone, Android, App Mode and AppRadio Mode reflects compatibility features from an earlier product generation. Operation with current phones, operating systems and applications has not been established. The CA-IU.52C USB and Lightning cable is sold separately.

Audio adjustment

A 13-band graphic equaliser lets you adjust individual frequency ranges. Source level adjustment helps balance the volume when switching between different sources. The Loudness function reinforces the ends of the frequency range when listening at a lower volume.

The high-pass filter reduces frequencies below the selected cut-off point. This is useful when low-frequency reproduction is handled by a separate subwoofer. Time alignment helps compensate for car speakers installed at different distances from the listener.

Auto EQ can automate the equaliser measurement process. This function requires the separately available CZX-5497A measurement microphone. Advanced Sound Retriever works with conventional audio sources, while Bluetooth Advanced Sound Retriever is provided for audio transmitted through Bluetooth.

The 2-way network mode provides an additional option for controlling the channels in the audio system. Its settings must be configured to suit the speakers and amplifiers installed in the vehicle.

Video, control and additional connections

Two video inputs accept signals through RCA and mini-jack AV connections. A rear video output can send the picture to an additional display in the vehicle. The unit supports PAL, NTSC and SECAM video systems.

A separate input is provided for a reversing camera. The ND-BC8 camera is an optional accessory and is not included with the stereo. The unit also has one RGB input and supports a vehicle multifunction display.

The ISO connector is used for the vehicle’s power and audio wiring. A wired remote-control input is provided for compatible control equipment. The optional CD-R33 remote control can be used to operate CD and DVD playback.

Installation and navigation

Installation requires a 2-DIN opening and the appropriate vehicle-specific connection. The USB, AUX, video, camera and amplifier connections are located at the rear of the chassis. Their cable routing should therefore be planned before the stereo is fitted permanently into the dashboard.

Navigation is not built in. Navigation readiness is available only when the optional AVIC-F260 module is connected. Navigation should therefore not be regarded as part of the standard equipment supplied with this model.
