The Pioneer AVH-X490DAB is a 2 DIN in-car multimedia receiver for controlling music, video and hands-free calls. Its 6.2-inch touchscreen provides access to DAB+, FM/AM, DVD, CD, USB and Bluetooth sources. Three pairs of 4 V RCA pre-outs allow separate amplifiers to be connected for the front channels, rear channels and subwoofer. The DAB antenna, camera and navigation module are sold separately.
The Pioneer AVH-X490DAB car stereo is a 2 DIN multimedia receiver for controlling audio, video and phone calls. Its 6.2-inch WVGA touchscreen provides access to radio, disc, USB and Bluetooth sources. The built-in DAB+ tuner complements conventional RDS FM and AM radio reception.
Music and video sources
The rear USB connection accepts storage media and supported phones. It can play MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC and FLAC audio, DivX, Xvid, H.264 and MPEG-4 video, and JPEG images.
The disc drive plays Region 2 DVDs and audio CDs, with support for MP3, WMA, AAC, DivX, Xvid, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 files.
AppRadio Mode, App Mode and Spotify control were designed for phones and applications from this model’s era. App Mode was intended for iPhone, iPod and compatible Android devices. Present-day operation depends on the connected phone, operating system and application version.
Bluetooth and radio
Bluetooth can be used for wireless music streaming and hands-free calls. The HFP, A2DP and SPP profiles support hands-free calling, audio streaming and compatible data functions. Two phones can remain connected simultaneously, while automatic pairing is available through USB.
The built-in DAB+ tuner includes a time-shift function that lets you pause the received programme. The unit carries digital radio Tick Mark approval. A DAB antenna is not included; the CA-AN-DAB.001 is listed as an optional accessory.
Connecting an audio system
Three pairs of 4 V RCA pre-outs serve the front channels, rear channels and subwoofer, allowing separate amplifiers to be connected. The 2-way network mode provides an additional option for distributing audio between channels.
Video equipment can be connected through two inputs, a rear video output and a reversing-camera input with camera-view switching. The ND-BC8 camera is sold separately. Rear AUX and RGB inputs are also provided.
Audio adjustment
The 13-band graphic equaliser allows individual frequency ranges to be adjusted.
A high-pass filter helps divide the work between the main speakers and subwoofer. Time alignment compensates for different speaker distances from the listening position. The Auto EQ function requires the separately available CZX-5497A microphone.
Advanced Sound Retriever is intended to process compressed Bluetooth audio. Loudness and source-level adjustment functions help manage listening volume across sources. MIXTRAX EZ is also included.
Display and installation
The 16:9 display offers selectable widescreen modes. Display and button illumination colours can be coordinated with the vehicle interior. The RGB button illumination provides a stated choice of 210,000 colours.
The receiver requires a 2 DIN dashboard opening. Its USB, AUX, video and camera connections are located at the rear, so the necessary cables should be routed during installation. An external Bluetooth microphone is included.
Navigation requires the separately available AVIC-F260 module. Before planning a navigation installation, consider the availability of this older module and the condition of its map updates. The optional CA-IU.52C cable was intended for Lightning-equipped devices.
