Marantz GRAND HORIZON Wireless Speaker

The Marantz GRAND HORIZON speaker is an active wireless all-in-one sound system for music and TV audio. It combines 370 W of FTC-rated amplification, eight drivers, HDMI eARC/ARC and HEOS.

Amplification and drivers

The Marantz Rise amplifier uses GaN FET technology. The driver array consists of one 8-inch Marantz Gravity woofer, four 3-inch full-range drivers and three 1-inch tweeters.

A seamless layer of Marantz Radiance 360° fabric covers the enclosure. Marantz Mirage DSP processes the sound, while Marantz AuraControl provides direct control from the speaker.

Connecting sources

One pair of RCA L/R inputs is provided for an analogue stereo source. A television or digital player can be connected through the TOSLINK optical input.

The HDMI eARC/ARC connection is intended for audio from a compatible television. Supported signals include Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital and LPCM.

The USB-C port accepts storage media formatted as FAT32 or NTFS. This connection is designed for media playback and should not be treated as a universal USB audio input.

An Ethernet port is available for a wired network connection. Wireless options include dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax networking, Bluetooth 5.4 and AirPlay 2.

Network playback

HEOS provides access to shared folders on network-attached storage (NAS) and to UPnP sources. Music can also be played from an iOS, Android or Kindle Fire device.

Services listed through HEOS include Pandora, Spotify, TuneIn, SiriusXM, Amazon Music, TIDAL and iHeartRadio. The list also includes Deezer, Deezer HiFi, Mood:Mix, Sony Hi-Res, AWA, Play and SoundCloud. Service availability depends on the country and may change over time.

Controls and initial setup

The controls on the speaker let you raise or lower the volume and play or pause music. A multicolour LED indicator shows the system’s status.

Connection and Bluetooth buttons are located on the rear panel. Network sources are controlled through the HEOS app for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire devices.

For a permanent installation, you can use a wired Ethernet connection. When a network cable is not available, the speaker connects to a dual-band Wi-Fi network.

Understanding the power ratings

The 370 W figure is stated according to the FTC output-power rating. It should be used for comparisons with other products measured under the same conditions.

The 860 W total peak-power figure was not tested to the FTC standard. The 1,400 W rating represents raw peak amplifier power and is not an FTC figure either.

Placement

The speaker weighs 21.3 kg, so it requires a stable supporting surface. Allow enough room for the enclosure’s 529.2 mm depth and for access to the rear connections.

Placing the speaker close to a wall may reinforce the bass. Start with some space behind it, then choose the final position by listening from your usual seating position.

Does the speaker need a separate amplifier?

No. The amplifier is built into the active system, while the RCA connection is intended for an analogue audio source.

Can the USB-C port be used for computer audio?

The port is intended for USB storage media. Computer audio can be connected through a compatible optical or analogue output available on the computer.

Does support for 7.1-channel PCM mean that separate speakers are included?

No. This specification describes the multichannel LPCM signal the system can accept, not a set of separate speakers.

How should I choose where to place the speaker?

Use a stable surface capable of supporting its weight. Do not cover the fabric-wrapped enclosure, and leave access to the connections on the rear panel.

Will every HEOS music service work in Lithuania?

Availability depends on the country and the terms of the individual service. The list of services may change.
