JL Audio MBT-CRXv2 is a Bluetooth audio receiver and panel-mounted controller for an in-vehicle audio system with an amplifier or processor equipped with RCA inputs. A2DP carries stereo audio, while a compatible source can use the Qualcomm aptX codec. One pair of low-level RCA outputs supplies a 2 V RMS signal. Its 8-28 V power range allows integration into a suitable vehicle electrical circuit.

Description

JL Audio MBT-CRXv2 is a Bluetooth audio receiver and panel-mounted controller for an in-vehicle audio system. It receives an A2DP stereo signal and passes it through one pair of low-level RCA outputs. It is intended for systems in which the amplifier or audio processor has an analogue RCA input.

Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity is complemented by the Qualcomm aptX audio codec. AptX is used only when the connected audio source also supports it. The A2DP profile enables high-quality two-channel audio streaming from a compatible Bluetooth source.

Audio signal connection

The receiver has one pair of low-level stereo RCA outputs for connection to the analogue line-level input of an amplifier, audio processor or another suitable device. This is not a speaker-level output, so speakers must not be connected to it directly.

The 2 V RMS output signal is sent to the input of the next device in the system. During initial setup, it is advisable to set the amplifier’s input sensitivity conservatively. The source volume can then be increased gradually while checking that the sound remains clean.

The frequency response extends from 20 Hz to 18 kHz within a ±1 dB tolerance. The signal-to-noise ratio is 93 dB, measured across the 20 Hz-20 kHz range.

Power and system turn-on

The unit operates from 8-28 V DC. This range is important when selecting a suitable electrical circuit in a car or another vehicle. A 2 A Mini ATC fuse is specified for the power supply line.

Current draw is 48 mA in standby and 64 mA at full output. These figures help you assess the receiver’s load when planning the power circuit.

The remote turn-on output can control the turn-on circuit of connected audio equipment. Its maximum permitted load is 350 mA. It is not designed to power an amplifier or any other high-power device.

Wireless range and initial setup

The specified Bluetooth range is up to 11 metres. Metal panels, enclosed spaces and other wireless devices may reduce the actual range. Check the connection at the intended controller location before completing the installation.

First connect the power supply, RCA output and remote turn-on circuit, if used. Then pair an audio source that supports A2DP. Begin listening at a low volume before adjusting the rest of the system’s signal chain.

Panel installation

The compact controller housing measures 55 mm wide, 55 mm high and 19 mm deep. A mounting depth of 60 mm must be available behind the panel. This space accommodates both the unit and its connections behind the mounting surface.

The required opening depends on the chosen mounting method. With access to the rear of the panel, the minimum hole diameter is 29 mm. For front mounting with the plate, the maximum hole diameter is 48 mm.

Before drilling, check both the opening diameter and the available depth behind the panel. Space must also be allowed for the RCA connectors and power wiring.

FAQ

What is this receiver designed for?

It adds Bluetooth audio reception to an in-vehicle audio system. The system must include a device with a low-level stereo RCA input.

Where should the RCA outputs be connected?

Connect them to the line-level RCA input of an amplifier or audio processor. These outputs must not be connected directly to passive speakers.

Will aptX work with every Bluetooth source?

A2DP is the profile used for stereo audio transmission, while aptX is used only when the connected audio source supports it.

How do I choose the mounting-hole size?

With rear access, the minimum opening diameter is 29 mm. For front mounting with the plate, the maximum diameter is 48 mm.

What should I check before final installation?

Check that 60 mm of clear depth is available, confirm the connector positions and test the Bluetooth connection. This helps prevent an incorrectly sized opening or obstructed cable routes.
