Gold Note Mediterraneo X is a belt-drive turntable for analogue music listeners who want precise control over the drive system. Gold Note Mediterraneo X is a belt-drive turntable with touchscreen control of speed and motor torque. All essential turntable functions are operated from the touchscreen, including speed selection, fine speed adjustment and motor torque settings.
The turntable retains the recognisable Mediterraneo construction while adding electronic settings to its mechanical design. Adjustments for both supported speeds are stored, so they do not need to be set again every time the turntable is switched on.
Platter and plinth construction
The 45 mm platter is made from solid machined aluminium and high-density POM. The complete platter weighs 7 kg.
The three-part plinth consists of a large solid-aluminium platform, a central steel section and a lower wooden base. The seller describes the middle section as a 3 mm stainless-steel disc. This should not be confused with the separately described 45 mm record platter.
The lower section is made from solid Italian wood and follows Gold Note’s characteristic catenary curve. Three anodised-aluminium feet allow the turntable to be levelled on the chosen supporting surface.
Motor and speed control
The belt-drive system uses a rectified EPDM belt with a hardness of 70 Shore. It drives the platter through a 12 V synchronous motor. The motor is controlled electronically by a patented system incorporating a Quadral-Core microcontroller and an audio converter.
The touchscreen provides electronic switching between 33⅓ and 45 rpm. Fine speed adjustment is available for both operating modes. The specified speed variation is ±0.1%, while wow and flutter are below 0.1%.
An integrated stylus timer records total stylus use. This information helps you plan condition checks and replacement, although actual wear also depends on the cartridge, the condition of the records and maintenance.
Connecting the audio system
RCA connectors are fitted at the rear, and a phono cable is supplied. Connect the turntable to a phono stage suitable for the signal from your chosen cartridge. A compatible phono input on an amplifier can also be used if it supports the cartridge type.
The package includes a B-7 Ceramic X tonearm. The phono cartridge must be selected separately, allowing it to be matched to the phono stage and the intended configuration of the analogue system.
Placement and everyday use
The unpacked turntable weighs 25 kg and therefore requires a strong, level support. Level the body with the adjustable feet before setting up the tonearm. Leave sufficient room for the hinges and for opening the smoked-acrylic dust cover.
The body is 470 mm wide and 360 mm deep. When choosing a shelf, consider its load capacity as well as its dimensions. Additional clearance should be left behind the turntable for the power and signal cables.
