The Gold Note Mediterraneo is a belt-drive turntable for a discerning home stereo system. It comes with a B7 Ceramic tonearm and an acrylic dust cover. The Gold Note Mediterraneo turntable is a belt-drive model designed for playing vinyl records in a home stereo system. It comes with a B7 Ceramic tonearm and an acrylic dust cover. Its 25 kg construction requires a stable surface capable of safely supporting its weight.
Platter and drive construction
The 45 mm-thick platter is made from Sustarin® and features what Gold Note calls an “Ultra Dead Design.” A special Split-Spindle™ spindle is paired with a precisely engineered platter bearing.
The bearing incorporates a 5 mm tungsten ball support and an adjustable brass seat. The complete bearing assembly is housed in a carefully polished bronze casing.
The platter is driven by a precision-ground 70 Shore polyvinyl belt. A high-torque 12 V synchronous motor receives power from an external power supply.
Speed selection and adjustment
Electronic speed selection lets you switch between 33⅓ and 45 rpm. There is no need to move the belt manually when changing between records made for these two speeds.
Fine electronic speed adjustment is also provided. It is intended for correcting small rotational-speed deviations, while the stated speed accuracy is ±0.1%. When making an adjustment, begin from the factory position and change the setting only when necessary.
Connecting the turntable to a stereo system
The turntable must be used with a phono stage designed for a turntable-level signal. This can be a separate component or a phono input built into an amplifier. The phono stage mode must match the cartridge selected for the turntable.
The B7 Ceramic tonearm is supplied with the turntable. When fitting a cartridge, its alignment, tracking force and compensation mechanism must all be set accurately. Each setting must follow the requirements of the particular cartridge being used.
Placement and everyday use
The 470 mm-wide chassis requires a sufficiently wide piece of furniture or a dedicated shelf. Its 360 mm depth should also be considered when planning the installation. Leave enough room behind the turntable for its connections and cables.
The turntable is 210 mm high. Additional clearance is needed above it so that the acrylic dust cover can be raised. The cover is included and protects the turntable while it is not in use.
Choose a level, rigid surface rated to support 25 kg. Do not place the turntable on the same unstable piece of furniture as the speakers. Avoid locations where movement from the floor can easily travel through the shelf and reach the turntable.
Choosing the correct power version
The power version is configured at the factory for a particular market: 100 V, 115 V or 230 V, at 50/60 Hz. The voltage configuration cannot be changed. It is therefore important to select the version intended for the destination market before purchasing.
