TAD E1AX is a three-way bass-reflex floorstanding speaker system for full-range stereo listening. Two 16 cm drivers with MACC composite diaphragms reproduce the bass. Concentric midrange and high-frequency module
The CST coaxial module places both drive units on the same axis. A 9 cm magnesium-cone driver reproduces the midrange, while a 2.5 cm semi-dome tweeter with a beryllium diaphragm handles high frequencies.
TAD manufactures the beryllium diaphragm using a vapour-deposition process. The concentric arrangement controls the directivity of both drivers and helps them behave as a common point source.
Two bass drivers
The two 16 cm cone drivers use MACC multilayer aramid composite diaphragms. Separately formed layers of woven aramid and a non-woven material are laminated together to create one composite cone.
Each woofer is driven by an LDMC linear magnetic circuit. The bass section crosses over to the CST module at 420 Hz, with the second crossover frequency set at 2.5 kHz.
Bidirectional bass-reflex system
The bidirectional ADP system is installed at the bottom of the enclosure, with openings facing forward and backward. Its internal duct has a horn-shaped profile.
The port flare is made from cast aluminium, and the front and rear openings are arranged symmetrically. A 10 mm-thick machined steel base plate is fitted underneath.
Positioning and initial setup
Each speaker is 518 mm deep and weighs 54 kg, so plan for a solid supporting surface and sufficient clearance around the rear opening. Neither the front nor rear ADP opening should be covered.
Begin with the speakers positioned symmetrically in relation to the listening seat. Adjust their distance from the rear wall in small steps while listening to the bass balance. Fine-tune the toe-in angle according to the precision of the central stereo image.
