Steg ME 650CII Component Car Speakers
480,00 €
Steg ME 650CII component speakers have separately mounted woofers and tweeters, allowing you to choose the tweeters’ position and direction. Check the amplifier’s compatibility with a 4 Ω load and allow for the 73.7 mm mounting depth. Woofer protective grilles are not included.
Steg ME 650CII component car speakers are designed for a car audio system in which the woofer and tweeter are mounted separately. Before choosing this system, check the 4 Ω impedance, the 73.7 mm mounting depth, and the space available for a separate tweeter.
Separate speakers and placement
A component system lets you install the woofer in a suitable vehicle opening and choose a different position for the tweeter. This gives you a way to aim the high frequencies toward the listening area. Placement affects what you hear, so it is worth comparing several tweeter positions before fixing one in place.
Start by inspecting the door or other intended opening. Check both the opening and the space behind it with the window and trim in their normal positions. Before drilling or fastening the tweeters, temporarily try the chosen position on both sides of the car. Listen from the usual driver and passenger seats to decide which direction works best.
The 28 mm fabric-dome tweeter has an aluminium housing and a hexagonal protective grille. Its housing needs its own mounting location. The tweeter grille does not serve as a grille for the woofer; woofer protective grilles are not included.
Woofer construction
The woofer uses a specially formulated paper cone with a rubber surround. Its cast-aluminium basket is ventilated. The driver also has a 35 mm diameter voice coil, turned pole plates, a drilled pole piece, and an air gap. Check the clearance behind the mounting surface before installation.
Make sure the mounting surface is stable and that moving vehicle parts cannot touch the speaker or its wiring. If you use existing speaker locations, allow for the trim to be refitted afterward. For an exposed installation, plan how the woofer will be protected, since its protective grille is not supplied.
Planning the connection
80 W RMS is the power rating to use when planning the system for sustained operation. When comparing amplifiers, look at their power ratings into a 4 Ω load. A larger wattage figure on its own does not tell you how an amplifier will work with these speakers.
The 88 dB sensitivity is specified at 1 W and 1 m. Use it to compare speakers only when their figures are stated under the same conditions. The 60 Hz resonant frequency does not promise that the system will reproduce every frequency below that point. Installation also affects the bass you hear in the car.
The tweeter needs suitable frequency separation from the woofer. Plan the filtering around the amplifier or audio processor you use, so each driver receives an appropriate frequency range. Decide where that separation will take place before making the connections. With an active processor or amplifier filters, set each channel for the driver connected to it. If you use a passive crossover, follow that crossover’s wiring diagram. The supplied information does not say whether a passive crossover is included, so check its availability when planning the installation.
Begin at a low volume when you first switch the system on. Set the amplifier’s input sensitivity according to the source signal and the amplifier instructions; it is not an extra volume control. If you use an equalizer, first listen without strong adjustments, then set the balance from your normal listening position. The speaker specifications alone do not establish particular crossover frequencies or gain settings.
Its place in a car audio system
For a stereo setup, plan this component design as part of the left and right front sound, taking the chosen mounting locations into account. If the car also has rear speakers, adjust the front and rear balance after connection while listening from your usual seat. A separate subwoofer can be added as another part of the system, with suitable frequency separation between it and the component speakers. Before connecting multiple speakers to one amplifier channel, calculate the resulting load and check that the amplifier supports it.

FAQ
Which cars will this system fit?
Choose it according to the dimensions of your car’s speaker locations. There must be enough room behind the mounting surface for the specified depth. You also need a suitable separate location for the tweeter.
Can I connect it to a car amplifier?
Yes, provided the amplifier supports a 4 Ω speaker load. Compare its power figures at that load, and plan suitable frequency separation for the tweeter and woofer.
Do both speakers mount in the same location?
No. Before choosing the system, check that your car has a suitable place where the separate tweeter can be mounted securely.
Does 60 Hz mean the lowest frequency it can reproduce?
No. Fs = 60 Hz alone cannot determine a crossover setting or the lowest bass frequency you will hear in the car. Consider the complete system and its installation.
Will I need separate protective grilles?
Woofer protective grilles are not included. If the mounting position is exposed, account for their possible need when planning the installation.
Can I add a separate subwoofer?
Yes. Plan frequency separation for the subwoofer and these speakers according to the amplifier or audio processor you use. This model’s resonant frequency alone does not determine a suitable crossover setting.
