The Yamaha RX-A4A AV receiver is a 7.2-channel AVENTAGE model for a 7.1 or 5.1.2 home-cinema system. The Yamaha RX-A4A AV receiver is a 7.2-channel AVENTAGE model designed for home cinema, network music and a second audio zone. Its seven power-amplifier channels accommodate either a 7.1 or 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos speaker system. Seven HDMI inputs and three HDMI outputs provide connections for multiple source and display devices.
Sound and room acoustics
SURROUND:AI adapts surround-sound processing in real time. CINEMA DSP HD3 provides 24 DSP programmes. Supported formats include Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Surround, DTS:X and DTS-HD Master Audio. Auro-3D is not supported. The virtual-speaker functions are useful in rooms where installing every physical speaker is impractical.
YPAO-R.S.C. performs multipoint, 3D and angle measurements, applies reflected-sound control and uses 64-bit precision equalisation calculations. YPAO Volume, Adaptive DRC and configurable volume limits help tailor playback to different listening conditions.
HDMI for video and gaming
HDMI pass-through supports 8K/60AB and 4K/120AB signals at bandwidths of up to 40 Gbps. Video can be upscaled to 8K, while Dolby Vision, HDR10+, VRR, ALLM, eARC and ARC are supported. QMS is not supported and cannot be added through a firmware update because of a hardware limitation associated with the HDMI 2.1a QMS specification change. The receiver has no analogue video inputs and cannot convert analogue video to HDMI.
Music, connections and zones
MusicCast, MusicCast Surround and AirPlay 2 support music streaming and multi-room control. Bluetooth works with SBC and AAC codecs. Dual-band Wi-Fi operates on the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. A wired network connection, front USB input, two optical digital inputs and one coaxial digital input are also provided.
The MM phono input allows direct connection of a compatible turntable. Zone 2 can operate through the pre-out connection, the receiver’s integrated power-amplifier channels or HDMI, with video output up to 4K/60 Hz. Third and fourth zones are not supported.
The 110 W power rating is measured into 8 ohms across the full 20 Hz-20 kHz range, with two channels driven and 0.06% THD. The 135 W and 165 W figures are measured into 8 ohms at 1 kHz with one channel driven; the 165 W maximum effective output rating permits 10% THD. The chassis weighs 16.2 kg and measures 435 × 191 × 442 mm. Its overall height increases to 270 mm when the antennas are raised.

FAQ
Does an external power amplifier increase the channel count?
No. The 7.2-channel pre-outs carry the existing channels but do not add any new speaker channels.
How should I connect a television?
Connect a compatible television to the HDMI connection marked eARC so that audio from its apps can return to the receiver through the same cable.
Can I connect a turntable?
Yes, provided its output is compatible with the MM phono input. A turntable with a different output type may require a separate phono preamplifier.
Is the receiver suitable for a 4K/120 Hz games console?
Yes. HDMI pass-through supports 4K/120AB, VRR and ALLM. The source, display and HDMI cable must also support the required functions.
Can I play separate audio in another room?
Yes. Zone 2 can use the pre-out, integrated power-amplifier or HDMI output.
