The Pro-Ject DEBUT CARBON EVO is designed for listening to vinyl records as part of a home stereo system. This belt-drive turntable features an 8.6-inch carbon-fibre tonearm and a factory-fitted, factory-aligned Sumiko Rainier cartridge.
Who this turntable is for
This model is intended for a system built from separate audio components. Its upper surface is free from bright indicators, sliders and clusters of controls. A phono preamplifier, Bluetooth, USB, digital connections and audio amplification are not built in. Separate external electronics can be selected for these functions according to the requirements of the stereo system.
Connecting it to a stereo system
The cartridge signal travels through a continuous copper wiring path directly to the RCA outputs. A separate ground connection is positioned beside them. This should be connected to the grounding terminal on the amplifier or external phono preamplifier.
A Pro-Ject Connect It E RCA turntable cable is included. It has a semi-balanced, low-capacitance and shielded design. If the amplifier does not have a PHONO input, an external phono preamplifier is required between the turntable and a line-level input.
Cartridge and replaceable stylus
The Sumiko Rainier is a moving-magnet phono cartridge. Its stylus can be replaced, and a Sumiko Olympia or Sumiko Moonstone stylus can be fitted without replacing the Rainier cartridge body. This provides a straightforward upgrade route while retaining the factory-installed cartridge.
Platter and vibration control
A thermoplastic elastomer damping ring is fitted beneath the outer edge of the 12-inch steel platter. The additional mass strengthens the flywheel effect, while the damping reduces resonance and helps the platter maintain more stable rotation.
The platter rotates on a main-bearing and sub-platter assembly. Steel plates and a thermoplastic elastomer suspension isolate the motor from the MDF plinth. An integrated electronic circuit controls the motor and compensates for the effect of fluctuations in the power supply on rotational speed.
Operation and placement
An electronic switch allows 45 rpm playback to be selected. The rocker switch for power and speed is located beneath the front-left corner. It remains easy to reach without adding extra controls to the upper surface of the plinth.
The height-adjustable metal feet use thermoplastic elastomer to damp vibrations transmitted through the supporting surface. They also allow the turntable to be levelled accurately. Place it on a firm, level surface and keep it away from vibrations produced by the loudspeakers.
Plinth and finishes
The solid MDF plinth is available in gloss black, white or red. Other choices include satin black, soft pastel satin finishes and a real walnut veneer. Painted plinths receive eight coats of paint. A dust cover is included.

Which amplifier input should I use for the turntable?
Use the PHONO input and connect the turntable’s ground connection. When using a line-level input, an external phono preamplifier must be placed between the turntable and amplifier.
Does the cartridge need to be aligned before first use?
The Rainier cartridge is already installed and aligned at the factory, reducing the amount of initial setup required. The turntable itself must still be levelled accurately.
Where should I place the turntable?
Choose a firm, level piece of furniture. Keeping the turntable farther away from the loudspeakers helps reduce the mechanical vibrations reaching the tonearm.
Can I upgrade the cartridge without replacing it?
Yes. A Sumiko Olympia or Sumiko Moonstone stylus can be fitted without replacing the Rainier cartridge body.
