JL Audio CR-1<\/strong> is an active analogue subwoofer crossover designed for two-channel systems, studios and mastering rooms. It filters the signals sent to the subwoofer and the main speakers separately.<\/p>\n

Analogue audio circuitry<\/h2>\n

The audio signal is processed through an entirely analogue signal path. Filter frequencies are controlled by multiplying digital-to-analogue converters<\/strong> with monolithic ratio matching, but the audio signal itself is never digitised. The circuit uses 1% precision resistors, audio-grade operational amplifiers with JFET inputs, polypropylene film-and-foil capacitors and metallised polypropylene film capacitors.<\/p>\n

Connections and system modes<\/h2>\n

Main stereo sources can be connected through RCA<\/strong> sockets or balanced XLR\/TRS<\/strong> combination inputs. Satellite-speaker and subwoofer signals are available through RCA, TRS or XLR outputs. The subwoofer output can operate in stereo or summed mono L+R mode.<\/p>\n

A separate Managed Bass input<\/strong> accepts the signal from a multichannel system. In bypass mode, this signal is routed to the subwoofer outputs, allowing the same subwoofer chain to be shared between two-channel and multichannel systems.<\/p>\n

System adjustment<\/h2>\n

The crossover frequency is continuously adjustable from 30 to 150 Hz<\/strong>. The high-pass and low-pass filters have separate frequency controls, while a front-panel switch selects either a 12 or 24 dB-per-octave Linkwitz-Riley slope.<\/p>\n

Independent damping controls adjust the Q value<\/strong> of each filter. At the upper centre \u201c0\u201d mark, Q is 0.5. A central control adjusts the relative level between the subwoofer and satellite-speaker outputs across a \u00b112 dB<\/strong> range. Each output can also be muted independently, making it easier to assess the contribution of each part of the system during setup.<\/p>\n

Installation<\/h2>\n

The enclosure is 441 mm wide and 398 mm deep, so additional space must be allowed for connectors and plugs. A rear ground-lift switch provides a choice of isolated or grounded operation. The mains voltage is set at the factory, so the factory power version must be selected to match the electrical supply in the destination country.<\/p>\n
